PETRICHOR:
The Smell of Fresh Rain on Dry Earth

Melbourne Based Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice

Jesse Hooper (AMHSW)

What I Do

My goal is to help you break down those barriers preventing you from living your best life.

Utilising evidence based interventions, I bring my counselling and psychotherapeutic skills gained from supporting people from a broad range of diverse and marginalised communities, I welcome clients from the LGBTIQ+, CALD, and disability communities.

Who I Am

Jesse Hooper (AMHSW)

I am an experienced Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

My approach is warm and collaborative, I firmly believe that you are the expert in your experience and part of my role is to provide empathetic, non-judgemental guidance and evidence-based psychological interventions, meeting you where you are at.

I have experience working with adults who have gone through life’s challenges and wanting support with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and trauma, among other issues and needs.

Life and nature move in cycles, Spring turns to Summer turns to Autumn turns to Winter turns to Spring. We cannot hurry the turning of the Earth, we can be in harmony with it.

The same is true for our lives; there are times of growth, light, and happiness, and times of loss, strife, and discontent. Just as we cannot stop the Earth’s turn on permanent Spring, we cannot only live a life happiness and contentment. We can endure the hard times and move through the world in alignment with what matters to us so that, after a long drought, we can smell the petrichor.

Many people notice benefits from therapy right from their first session, often feeling a sense of relief from being heard and understood. For others, it may take several sessions to feel comfortable and see changes. Initial sessions can sometimes feel challenging as you open up about difficult experiences.

The key signs that therapy is working include feeling lighter, becoming less reactive, recognizing patterns in your behavior, and developing better coping skills. While there’s no fixed timeline,  regular check ins on established goals and tracking your progress throughout your therapeutic journey can help with noticing progress over time.
